Growing up in the fifties made me everlastingly grateful for a number of things, such as hot running water, central air conditioning, automatic dishwashers, TV remote control, the internet, personal computers (typewriters really sucked – no backspacing!), There were no garage door openers. There were no personal computers.

We shopped at garage sales, turned down the heat, combined errands to use less gas, didn’t buy a lot of prepared food, cooked at home and the like. We had a dishwasher, but it was broken and we didn’t want to spend the money to repair it – so we did without one – for 10 years! We also did without a lot of things.

Am I Frugal – or Cheap?

The paper is pretty inexpensive at around $3 a roll. I won’t run the dishwasher unless it is completely full. It typically takes us three days to fill the dishwasher. Even though we rinse the stuff prior to loading it in the dishwasher, it does sit in there for several days. Cheap or frugal? Cheap or frugal?
