Most people think clothes when they think about what a thrift shop sells, but these shops often sell a number of other things that people can use in their day to day lives. Since there were four chairs and only three fit at the island, we repurposed the fourth chair by painting it and using it as a decoration in our spare bedroom. We painted the chair white (it used to be espresso brown) and freshened up the beige suede seat with a mustard color fabric that went well with the room. Go Frugal'

If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. But, find one in a high end neighborhood, one where the store sorts through the donations to select only the best. It would have been perfectly functional (although a bit rusty) as is, but hubby decided to paint it. A brand new croquet se t – $5.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Buy one then sell, donate or exchange it. Mom’s black cape, some makeup and a piece of cardboard cut and painted black to make bats ears can make someone into Dracula. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes.

Check out some thrift stores, vintage stores, flea markets, and garage sales. One project that almost anyone can do with just a few of the right tools is painting. Pick out your desired paint color at the hardware store and ask the sales person what you will need to paint a room.

I save tape and paper and old paint drop sheets. I had to part with $35 to buy one of those paint masks to even be able to apply it. Plus, the styles that fit are usually made by the high end manufacturers and carried in exclusive (expensive) clothing stores. Help me out, am I being cheap or just smart about money?
