We shopped at garage sales, turned down the heat, combined errands to use less gas, didn’t buy a lot of prepared food, cooked at home and the like. We had a dishwasher, but it was broken and we didn’t want to spend the money to repair it – so we did without one – for 10 years! We also did without a lot of things.
