We were poor, Mom and Dad lived every day showing us what it meant to ‘make it do’ and we often ‘did without’ Here are my thoughts on frugal ways to make things do. Instead of taking the family to a movie, have a home movie night with friends and family. I grew up with this, in theory and in practice.

The truth is, there are plenty of things our grandparents and great grandparents did that were eco-friendly and frugal that we can easily do today. Here are some simple things our family does to be more environmentally friendly and to save money: 1. Instead of having oodles of clothes, our family is minimizing our wardrobes.

I had three baby showers when I was pregnant for my son–one from each side of the family and one from my co-workers. Many of the other items I needed like cloth diapers and clothes for the baby in bigger sizes I bought from garage sales. There was very little I had to buy for my child after these showers.

The family honored her with a family and friends celebration in the Missouri History Museum. I already had saved up a box full of wine bottles, in hopes of selling them at my next garage sale, so we didn’t have any cash outlay for those. The third week of March was my Mother-in-laws 90 th birthday.
