Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. My best finds.

Normalize Gifting Thrifted Items: Shop all year long! I yard sale and thrift all year long for my booth. Why am I not thrifting gifts for my friends and family too. My bestie and I love to thrift together. We have thrifted items and given them to each other for years.

Just look at the many people scouring garage sales in the summer. Likewise, thrift stores are always full of people. The most famous large family, the Duggars, routinely buy as much as they can used. After all, it’s already been used by another family. I saved hundreds of dollars this way. Electronics.

That means a lot of other families need to offload children’s clothing that was barely worn, so you can snag some great deals. You can find used children’s clothing at thrift stores, garage sales, or online via Facebook Marketplace or eBay. Ask Family and Friends. Aim for Neutral Items.

I used to darn my family’s socks, but now don’t. He built his own garage. At garage sales, are you attracted to those still usable but slightly defective items that no one else wants? What happens when your favorite pair of leather boots starts to lose it’s soul? Few try to repair or get it repaired.

I had three baby showers when I was pregnant for my son–one from each side of the family and one from my co-workers. Many of the other items I needed like cloth diapers and clothes for the baby in bigger sizes I bought from garage sales. There was very little I had to buy for my child after these showers.

But, we also need stuff for emotional support – stuff to remind us that we are part of a generations old family, that we have accomplished significant tasks, seen impressive places and conquered difficult situations. But, they have to get rid of some stuff to make room for the stuff they inherit from family.
