People opened their windows and used attic fans or sat in metal lawn chairs outside to cool off. Christmas was a one week event – between Dec 25 and Jan. Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. Most of us did not have air conditioned homes. Some of us did not have central heat.
