Our son is 29 and biological. When they got married, they bought a duplex so that the rent money from the tenant in the upstairs apartment would pay the mortgage. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears were shed here, but we both agree that having no mortgage gave us a serious leg up on our retirement savings and other financial goals.
