Alcohol was dirt cheap in New Orleans, and transportation was a very small line on our budget in New York City. Something that I’ve found throughout all of my trips to the many different places I’ve visited, is that food is always a cost that is hard to contain. How have you saved money on food while travelling?

This was a short trip, because I was there for the Travel Goods Show, but I still took time to do some of my favorite free things and also splurge on some food and attractions I wanted to get to. The Park MGM Don't get this confused with The Park at MGM, which is the hotel across the street. That's not all though!

I also will pay more for some specialty food items, as I have several food allergies to deal with, and we eat a no-sugar diet. I also splurge on our cat’s special allergen-reducing food, which makes it possible for Ms. Easiest part of being frugal: Not buying things like junk food at the grocery store.

My recent good times included driving across the country to move from Utah to Pennsylvania, a trip to New Orleans for FinCon, a day trip to New York City, and an overnight business trip to Kansas City. It’s a pain to bring the carry-on through the airport, managing it as you get food or use the restroom.

You don’t have to stick exactly to the plan (a little flexibility makes for a better trip), but if you have your airfare, hotels, and rental cars arranged ahead of time, it makes things a little smoother. For me, this usually means food. Don’t try to cram in a bunch of stuff. Take Time to Try Cultural Things.

Pretty much every community in North America puts up a city tree. New York City’s Rockefeller Center ceremony is one of the biggest. Gingerbread houses at local hotels. The display is free to the public and is inside the beautifully decorated lobby of the hotel. Church & Club events.

TOPSHOP TOPSHOP Forever 21 Forever 21 Forever 21 Right in the middle of a confetti cloud Chinese Dumplings (can't remember the name of the place) Noodle Meal from the same place The food was EXCELLENT. Just a random shot before heading back to my hotel for the night. Aww LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
