But, we also need stuff for emotional support – stuff to remind us that we are part of a generations old family, that we have accomplished significant tasks, seen impressive places and conquered difficult situations. I like my stuff and I refuse to acquiesce to the guilt trips imposed by others. Humans need stuff. You want stuff.

We were poor, Mom and Dad lived every day showing us what it meant to ‘make it do’ and we often ‘did without’ Here are my thoughts on frugal ways to make things do. Instead of taking the family to a movie, have a home movie night with friends and family. Buy good clothing, used. Use up your food.

Many seamstresses lived on the charity of family and friends in addition to their pay. In many parts of the US, people learned to sew as part of their life skills – from parents or family or schools. Although Mom didn’t sew much (she did mend), she made sure I took Home Ec in high school. til 11 P.M As a hobby.

Now I’m living on the small acreage that I was raised on (which is now smack dab in the middle of town & 2 miles from work) with my mom & my two kids, 15 & 8. We teamwork together to homeschool-I was homeschooled until nursing school, and I am privileged to be teaching my kids & have my mom assist on the days I work.
