Just look at the many people scouring garage sales in the summer. Likewise, thrift stores are always full of people. Blender Fifteen years ago, I bought a blender at a garage sale for $3. I’m going to try sharpening the blades before I give up on it completely. Electronics. Do you buy used?

Some retail stores do still give out gift boxes for free, always check if you are buying in a brick and mortar store. Christmas cards are becoming a forgotten tradition, but we still get and give some. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. Ask for gift boxes. Go Green'

Candy alone can be a big bite if you get lots of trick or treaters and give out chocolate. We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). What are the typical essentials? Home decor, costumes for the kiddies (and adults!), pumpkins, haunted houses and parties abound.

I give away perfectly good electronics because they are ‘out of date’ – they don’t work with new software. At garage sales, are you attracted to those still usable but slightly defective items that no one else wants? Actually repairing a broken item yourself will give you a nice sense of accomplishment.

However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales. That should give me enough time to figure out what kind of camera I really need! Stores also stock up on gift sets with cosmetics for the holidays and may need to move it fast in January. Winter clothes. Cosmetics and jewelry.
