I’ve always loved going to sales – garage sales, estate sales, auctions, moving sales – no matter. I rented a booth in an antique mall in a neat old building out in a small town close by us and went out after antiques to fill it. Most garage sales don’t have many antiques – or even collectibles.

Garage sales – I found a guitar for $5.00 once at a garage sale and bought it for my grandson. Musical instrument exchanges – some sites let owners list and buyers browse used instrument sales. We rented our son’s alto saxophone while he took lessons in high school. Find A Used Instrument.

I love to shop garage sales. Rent Don’t Buy. If your child is wanting to take music lessons, think about renting the instrument instead of buying. College students have the option of renting books now. There are multiple online sites that let students rent, buy used or sell books. Buy don’t rent.

Renting a larger cabin costs more than renting for your own family, but if their are enough rooms and space, you can split costs with others and your net outlay is less, sometimes substantially less. We rent a shelter (usually), and it is bare! Some get stuff from stores, the less financially favored head for thrift stores, garage sales, Mom’s house or the trash pickup routes. Maybe you put it at the curb, hoping someone will take it and use it – or you sell it at a garage sale or some other used stuff venue.
