We were poor, Mom and Dad lived every day showing us what it meant to ‘make it do’ and we often ‘did without’ Here are my thoughts on frugal ways to make things do. I grew up with this, in theory and in practice. Take care of your wardrobe to keep it looking work and wear worthy. Buy good clothing, used.

Garage sales, estate sales, and moving sales are all great places to look for used furniture. You can also find truly interesting pieces at estate sales. There are usually plenty of used engagement rings for sale at reasonable prices. There are many consumer electronics items that you can purchase used.

Sure I knew about the ‘White sales’ – the ones stores used to have in January on sheets and towels and such, but I really hadn’t a clue that there is a best time to buy many other things! However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales. I know I do. Winter clothes.

The truth is, there are plenty of things our grandparents and great grandparents did that were eco-friendly and frugal that we can easily do today.
