School started after Labor Day and ended after Memorial Day. Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. Young men ran out to fill your tank, check your oil, try your tire pressure and wipe your windshield when you stopped for gas. Heck, there were barely chain guards!
