Know that money is limited and people need to make choices between things. Make change. Let them buy something once in a while with their own money – making sure to count their change. It never occurred to me to ask Mom or Mom-in-law to come watch my kids. We were open and sharing with our children – letting them in on the family experience/family discussion/family decision making. Expectations of our children. In my experience, my kids expect more of me for their kids than I expected of my parents for mine.
