It seemed reasonable to devote a greater portion to real estate, in order to further diversify our portfolio. We planned our purchase in the heady days just prior to the recession of 2008/2009. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a place where our sons, their wives and our grandchildren could come together to play, visit and bond?

I wanted a place for our family to gather – adult children and grandchildren along with us. I also wanted a bit more diversification in our portfolio and figured an additional piece of real estate could help that. The tax code for second homes used as rental properties is incredibly complex here in the US.
