They drove the 200 mile trip on holidays and birthdays to celebrate with us. They provided Christmas and birthday toys and on occasion provided direct financial aid. They rarely gave us toys or money. My parents were somewhat more interactive with their grandchildren (my kids).

For me, it was one of my great aunts and uncles who lived at one end of a dirt road, down from my grandfather. Every family event or holiday was celebrated at their house and no matter the time of year, people would end up on that swing. They had a big white house with steps up the middle to an open front porch.
