One of the biggest questions in our minds when we are considering a house that needs renovations is “how much?”, so I’ve taken it upon myself to cost out the renovations for a new kitchen, new flooring, bathroom upgrades and painting. I don’t know if you’ve checked recently, but renovations are EXPENSIVE!

We saw brand new homes, newly renovated homes, and ones that were old (and looked their age). Here are some things that we saw really updated the house drastically, with little work and little budget: Give it a Fresh Paint Job. It’s absolutely astounding what fresh paint will do to a room. It can make a huge difference.

Since there were four chairs and only three fit at the island, we repurposed the fourth chair by painting it and using it as a decoration in our spare bedroom. We painted the chair white (it used to be espresso brown) and freshened up the beige suede seat with a mustard color fabric that went well with the room. Go Frugal'

I save tape and paper and old paint drop sheets. I had to part with $35 to buy one of those paint masks to even be able to apply it. Of course, to protect the glass and window/door hardware you have to tape and paper it. Help me out, am I being cheap or just smart about money? We put in new windows this year at our 1985 home.

This one is heavy duty metal and oak with brass hardware. Hubby re-painted it and has used it for many things around the yard and grounds. It is hard to guess what this might have sold for when first painted, but it is beautifully done and the colors are perfect for our master bedroom. Outdoor bench (I refurbished it) $5.
