Discontinue Insurance. Since she could no longer afford to pay it, she stopped the home insurance and stopped using the cars she inherited (also free and clear). Don’t Pay Your Taxes. She stopped paying income tax on the rare occasions when she did have income and did not pay county real estate taxes.

Health insurance is a bit more pricy than when employed, but less than a lot of other people pay. We didn’t count on the psychological effect on me though. Remember to include taxes as an expense. This lets us see them enjoy the money, saves on death taxes and helps them out when they are young and poor.
