I thrifted items for my dad because he loves old books and coins. Finally, I found some clothing for my husband and son that was still new with the tag at the thrift store that they loved! That is when I decided to thrift all of my gifts this year for Christmas. Then I expanded to gift items for my mom.

Back in 2013, I had a year-long series, Christmas Savings Club , to encourage everyone to set aside money each month for the holidays. I had no emotional attachment to any of it and I was happy to make that money right before the holidays. But that store credit is much better than sending it to the thrift store as a donation.

My parents and their siblings were of the generation that grew up during the depression in the 1930′s. Dress it up with artwork or natural greenery as shown in this post from Parents. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. Holiday tins are also bountiful at these sales. Go Green'

My favorite thrift store has a section dedicated to seasonal items. The number and variety of Halloween items in this thrift store surprised me. How this holiday has changed since I was a child in the 1950’s, and even since I raised my own sons in the 1970’s/80’s!

Stay within budget this holiday season with up-cycled Christmas gifts. To make up-cycling for holiday and Christmas gifts work, you will need to be a little crafty, however the end result will be a unique and personal gift. I did this once when I was younger and made a table for my parents. The possibilities are endless.
