Recycling is great for the environment and we should all be doing it (in spite of my title), but reusing is even better. When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle. So instead of menu planning, buying what we need and eating it, we are buying what we feel like, cooking too much and throwing away the rest instead of eating the leftovers. Learn to hem and patch and sew on buttons to repair minor issues with clothing. Donate good clothing you really can’t use to a non-profit and bank the tax deduction. Plan uses for your leftovers. This used to be a common occurrence with a shoe repair shop on every main street. Buy good clothing, used. Use up your food.
