Storm #2: 2013. August 2013 was a month that I’d like to wipe from my memory. Our small business was going well, so we said so long to renting office space and purchased a commercial property in the summer of 2012. By the end of 2013, the business was heading on the right track and we had a plan in place to tackle our debt load.

I’ve shared before that April is the most expensive month of the year for us because our homeowners/auto insurance and property taxes are all due, along with any federal or state taxes that we might owe. After paying off our last non-mortgage debt in September 2019, we updated our Debt Freedom Plan.

In September 2019, my husband and I accomplished our biggest financial goal in our almost 20 years of marriage. By the summer of 2013, we found ourselves in a pickle–we had too much debt and not enough cash flow. When that loan was paid off, we put that full amount towards the third loan and this continued until September 2019.
