I have averaged 2-3 trips per year within North America, each one bringing different money saving (and splurging) opportunities and challenges. Alcohol was dirt cheap in New Orleans, and transportation was a very small line on our budget in New York City. I have a big appetite and love to eat. Thanks, couch surfing! Go Frugal'

There was the gas, the hotel, and the restaurants to pay for. We thought eating in restaurants was a main attraction of travel because you get to try local foods. Even when eating out on the cheap, we were still spending hundreds of dollars on food. Use hotel rewards. Ask for a better hotel rate or room.
