Bourbon Chicken with Broccoli

The Frugal Girl

This recipe has been on my menu posts multiple times, and you all have asked for the recipe more than once. I kept trying to find a time when I could make it and take good pictures of it, but it just never happened. So I decided to say, “screw it” and I settled for pictures that are not-that-good. Thank you for your understanding. Nursing school and all that jazz, you know?

Have you tweaked one of my recipes?

The Frugal Girl

My friend Polly suggested to me that we should have a discussion about tweaking the recipes that I’ve posted, and I think this is a great idea. She suggested I put out the top five recipes and ask for your tweaks on those. Sooo, I’ll put out a few suggestions, BUT if you’ve tweaked another one of my posted recipes, feel free to share that too.

Five Frugal Things | also, I PASSED

The Frugal Girl

First up: I passed all of my competency tests yesterday, first try. Yay!! The two professors who watched me said that I did a great a job and that they could tell I’d gone to a bunch of the optional open labs (and that’s true; I did sign up for tons of those). So… a big WHEW. I have competency tests each semester, and I think future ones will feel slightly less nerve-wracking because at least I will know what to expect.

Thankful Thursday | with a bad attitude

The Frugal Girl

Full disclosure: today I am feeling uncharacteristically negative. There are a lot of really frustrating and hard things going on in my life and sometimes, that feels a little overwhelming. But it is also true that there are good things, so I’m gonna make a list. AND I also might have a crying session at some point today. There’s room for both.

A “What’s Up Wednesday”

The Frugal Girl

Last Wednesday when I didn’t have time to write an actual post, Becca suggested that on such days, I could just put up a post where I share a little of what’s going on with me and you guys can chat about whatever you want in the comments. And lots of you said that was fine as long as there were also some pictures of Chiquita. So, here you go, with a little someone extra. ?

Thankful Thursday | I am not qualified

The Frugal Girl

The other day, I posted something on my social media stories (a quote from someone else) about how social media has caused us all to think we have an obligation to share an opinion on every world event, even when we aren’t remotely qualified to say something knowledgeable. I am qualified to comment on some topics (like frugality! furniture painting!

Five Frugal Things | white tees aplenty

The Frugal Girl

1. I used several strategies to save on white tees Now that it’s colder, my short-sleeve white scrub tops are feeling a little too breezy. Luckily, we ARE allowed to wear a plain white long-sleeved tee underneath our scrub tops. Yay! Unfortunately, I only own one white tee. Boo. Soo, I logged onto Lands’ End to take advantage of a sale, and I found several marked-down tees that would fit the bill.

Five Frugal Things | Cat: 2, Earbuds: 0

The Frugal Girl

1. I got two pairs of Yurbuds on eBay I bought a pair of pink earbuds from eBay some years ago. I’ve mentioned before that I have very small ear canals, which makes most earbuds painfully large. Yurbuds used to make earbuds that actually fit comfortably in my ears, but they got bought out by JBL a while back, and the new earbuds they make are not quite as comfy. my first pair of these earbuds Anyway…Shelley bit my earbuds several years ago, and the damage was light enough that I was

Q&A | Nursing School Qs, plus shoes, a planner, and the abandoned house

The Frugal Girl

First up, a few questions that have rolled in here and there about nursing school. I lost track of some of the names of questioners though; my apologies! Nursing School Questions How do you practice injections? On each other? Nope! We have spongy squares that are designed specifically for injection practice. They’re covered with a skin-like material, and the lab techs can just rinse them out after use so that the next group can use them as well.

WIS, WWA | with an attitude report

The Frugal Girl

I’m pleased to report that I am feeling slightly less negative than yesterday. I cleaned up my room. I went for a walk. I had a phone call with Lisey, texted with Sonia, and had in-real-life convos with Zoe. ? I got myself a little more organized on the school front. I went to an open lab at school for extra practice with injections and vital signs.

Thankful Thursday | after a bad Friday

The Frugal Girl

This week, I am thankful: that my ear has healed up I don’t know if was a zit or just a pressure injury from my stethoscope, but my right ear got a seriously sore spot on the skin and it hurt like you-know-what when I put my stethoscope in. This, unfortunately, coincided with an assignment where I had to do blood pressure readings on a bunch of different people.

What to do when a frugal activity backfires

The Frugal Girl

If you’ve been living the frugal life for any length of time, you’ve no doubt had a frugal activity backfire on you. I am no exception, so let me tell you about two of my recent examples! 1. A failure-filled yogurt-making session I had a rather comical yogurt-making issue recently. I was heating milk for a batch of yogurt one evening, and I forgot it was on the stove (I was studying in the living room!).

WIS, WWA | that was a lotta greens

The Frugal Girl

What I Spent This week I stopped in at Lidl and I bought a pretty large container of greens. It weighed twice as much as the smaller container and it was only about a dollar more, so that seemed like a no-brainer to me! And I am proud to say that I have single-handedly eaten almost the entire container, largely by eating a bowl of greens with my breakfast.

Five Frugal Things | are croutons a garnish?

The Frugal Girl

1. I made a single serving of croutons for my soup I made a pot of this butternut squash soup for myself, to use a squash that came in my Hungry Harvest box. Zoe doesn’t like butternut squash, so it’s all up to me in this department. I noticed there was a small piece of baguette left, so I cut it up and made some quick skillet croutons to put on top of my soup.

Five Frugal Things | So, my tire had a hole

The Frugal Girl

1. I got my tire fixed for free My driver’s side front tire got low this past May. Then it was fine until a few weeks ago, around the time I got my ankle stung by yellow jackets. It was only a few pounds low, and I thought, “Hmm, it’s been four months since the last time. Maybe it’s fine?” But then this past week, the low tire pressure light came on again.

Sort of a Q&A

The Frugal Girl

I am doing a pretty poor job of keeping people’s names with their questions, so some of these are just gonna be general responses to topics I’ve been getting questions about! Dry Eyes Some of you had asked about the eye mask I’m using for my dry eyes, wondering how it helps. My dry eyes are actually a result of my skin being so greasy.
