For many, the end of the year holiday shopping frenzy can override our saner, more thrifty selves. These get donated to thrift stores or placed in consignment shops so you might keep checking your local stores for these. We get desperate to find gifts for everyone on the list. I know I do. Participate in local food drives and donations and involve your kids in your actions. You can make it fun for you kids by running a household scavenger hunt in which you reward you children for finding household items to donate, such as clothes, toys, books, old appliances, and canned goods. And vice versa!)

I loved the article, so I started hitting up your archives. This was a time I had been thinking about not teaching anymore and staying home, so I was looking for new ideas to be thrifty. He is also thrifty and is much better at budgeting than I. If I could spend it without strings, I might just donate it to a food pantry.

In fact, my husband and I just revamped our budget so that we can donate to charities even more each month. Read Kay’s article to find some alternate routes.
