I was up until 2:30am on Christmas Eve and my daughter and son-in-law were up until 3:30. After too many presents from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and too many opening-present cookies, we took a break for some dinner. Luckily the kids didn’t get up early on Christmas morning. I slept until almost 9!

The time stretched out because he took two semesters off when our son was born, and he changed fields mid-study to one that has better employability.). After all, I have many aunts and uncles who winter in Florida, so I would have family nearby and my mom could come to visit to escape the Michigan cold.

I went on buying trips to New York for the fancy ladies wear shop run by one aunt (they used to model the dresses at high end shops), learned the uniform business from another aunt, and was taught the basics of the Borscht Belt hospitality business by a great cousin. After dinner, Dad went off to Schul with his brothers.

My WWII era uncle and his wife made trips annually with one of their 4 grandchildren (a different one each year). But our best trip was in 2012, when we funded a trip to Yellowstone with our two sons, their wives and our grandchildren. We aren’t the first generation of my family to include multiple generations on trips though.

Of course, later on I did get some really nice real dolls from my St Louis Aunts. One of their uncles played a joke on them and told them that they could ‘grow’ a pony. Our son was born in October, so I carried him all summer. it was A-OK with me. She made June bug strings, I made clover flower necklaces.
