I thought why am I not thrifting for more people on my gift giving list? I thrifted items for my dad because he loves old books and coins. Finally, I found some clothing for my husband and son that was still new with the tag at the thrift store that they loved! Don’t be afraid to start gifting thrifted items.

While I love thrift stores, I can be easily swayed to run into Target or Kohl’s when I’m in that part of town. I’m curious to see how much we can save and also how creative we can get by making do with what we already own or looking for things at a thrift store.

At the beginning of the month, we were in the market for a bedroom dresser because my youngest daughter’s dresser fell apart over the holidays. After shopping locally at some furniture stores, I resorted to Craigslist and spent hundreds less on a new-to-her dresser. Can I find what I need at a second hand or thrift store?

While I like to shop at thrift stores, I have a hard time finding TALL length jeans for my 5’10 frame and I was in need of new jeans. They always have a big sale on their store brand flour, sugar, brown sugar, chocolate chips. I earned a free turkey from my regular grocery store, GIANT of PA. stuff: $40.

Dave Ramsey suggests in his book, The Total Money Makeover , that you create a starter emergency fund of $1000. I’m always amazed by the amount store tags I see on clothing and household item at thrift stores. Research the store’s return policy for unused purchases without a receipt if you don’t have it.
