Growing up in the fifties made me everlastingly grateful for a number of things, such as hot running water, central air conditioning, automatic dishwashers, TV remote control, the internet, personal computers (typewriters really sucked – no backspacing!), There were no garage door openers. There were no bicycle helmets.

Children’s Music on a Budget

Most people know that music education helps grow children’s brains. Garage sales – I found a guitar for $5.00 once at a garage sale and bought it for my grandson. Experimenting with musical instruments should be part of every child’s growing up experience, at least in my book. Find A Used Instrument.

The Frugal Girl

We also grow a large garden & lots of flowers, fruit trees & a 100-year-old grapevine. There’s always been garage sales/flea markets, library, state parks, fishing. We have sheep, an old goat, chickens, guineas, dogs & cats. This year I was so pleased to have frozen tons of veg/fruit & made jam/juice from the grapes.

We had a coal stove at home, but my brother and my shared bedroom was just a few feet from the stove. One of their uncles played a joke on them and told them that they could ‘grow’ a pony.
