When I was growing up, my ideas about money were limited. Buy a house, since it’s an investment. Save money in a bank account (or perhaps a company retirement plan). Work at said job for 30 or 40 years. Retire and work no more. Now I’m a freelance writer who makes a living from home.

However, reality set in on April 1st and I’m now second-guessing that we have enough money set aside, so I have set into motion some strategies to prepare for the unstable economy and any lost income ahead. We didn’t have enough cash saved to buy a car without a loan and that wasn’t sitting well with me.
