A lot of us frequent garage sales. But once you have made your millions – would you still go garage sale-ing? Why would a millionaire want to continue to shop at garage sales? Garage sales are one of the few USA venues where negotiation on the price of goods to be bought is expected.

Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. I look for the neighborhood sales, which are usually either in spring or fall.

Many of you have specifically asked where to find used equipment. When you can, it is imperative that you use jars that are specially made for canning. Never try to use non-canning jars to preserve your food – doing so could lead to dangerous (invisible) bacteria growing in your food. Canning Jars. Accessories.

We were poor, Mom and Dad lived every day showing us what it meant to ‘make it do’ and we often ‘did without’ Here are my thoughts on frugal ways to make things do. Buy good clothing, used. Avoid buying cheap clothing new.

I love going to garage sales. Lately though, I’ve begun to re-consider. The free item needs too much re-furbishing. Of course they needed fixing up so he found a place in town that puts new brass coatings on, and trust me, those don’t come cheap. Maybe, maybe not. Here is why. The antique lamp.

First I looked online to see what the average cost of re-upholstery services were. Along the way, on one of my garage sale shopping expeditions, I stumbled across a matched pair of wing backs (non-reclining) for $20 each. I also sanded down the wood parts and re-stained and lacquered them while the chair was bare.
