Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. My neighbor’s garage sale was almost over when I stumbled on it.

She has a specific process of tidying up – you go through your various items, save what “sparks joy” and donate, sell and throw the rest away. I’ve found that many of my clothes I want to get rid of, I’ve only worn once or twice (and a few still have the tags on)! Also, if you have any ideas to add let me know.

Learn to hem and patch and sew on buttons to repair minor issues with clothing. Learn how to remove spots and do it as soon as the clothing gets dirty. Buy good clothing, used. Avoid buying cheap clothing new. Pass down serviceable clothing from child to child. Use up your food. Plan uses for your leftovers.

Fashion changes and new or nearly new clothing gets sold at sales or donated to charity. I used an old seat cushion I had and wrapped it with brand new material from another garage sale to pretty it up and make it softer, then stacked new throw pillows I found at yet another sale for $.50 Go Frugal'
