Finally, I found some clothing for my husband and son that was still new with the tag at the thrift store that they loved! Glass vases, dishes, candles, clothing, books, jewelry…the list goes on and on. I thought why am I not thrifting for more people on my gift giving list? And so, I started.

The sponsors are required to provide all of the ingredients for a holiday meal (turkey, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, vegetables, desserts, etc.) That first year, the family was a single mother whose infant son was born just a few days before our daughter. She was going to have a full, warm meal for the holidays.

Back to school clothes shopping can be very expensive even if you only have one child. You can also take advantage of tax free holidays, and you can set up clothing exchange clubs with your friends. For this reason, thrift stores are a great place to find gently used children’s clothing. Many of these stores are crowded.

If you’d like to make the switch from paper napkins, consider going to cloth napkins. You may find seasonal cloth napkins at a discounted price after the holiday. There is a growing trend for “ family cloth ” which is reusable cloth to replace toilet paper. Or you can make them yourself.

A couple of days ago on one of my visits, I noticed 2 entire clothing racks filled with Halloween costumes and/or clothing items. How this holiday has changed since I was a child in the 1950’s, and even since I raised my own sons in the 1970’s/80’s!
