It’s probably working! My own sister-in-law paid for travel to Hawaii by charging her son’s college tuition (this option, by the way, is no longer available with her card company). When I worked for TWA, and traveled a lot on business, I signed up for every airline and hotel rewards card available.

By paying college tuition at the state university with a cash back rewards credit card (and then paying the balance off before any interest charges came due!!), my sister-in-law earned enough cash to take the family to Hawaii!! If you or your student are funding college expenses, be careful of where you go for money first.
