Buy In Bulk By eliminating all packaging of food supplies, we could substantially cut the amount of packaging trash we throw away each day. Glass or metal can last a lifetime should you wish to reuse either one and are better recycling material than plastic is. Shredded paper can be put in compost piles.

We compost much of our food and garden scraps. But when I took our recycling bins out to the curb this week, I noticed that there is still room for improvement.

Create a meal plan for the week, and base your grocery shopping list on what you will actually eat during the week.

For example, most leftover food scraps can even be composted ( other than meat, of course ) so they can be brought home if a school or workplace doesn’t do composting. Everything in that lunch bag can be washed and reused or at least an be dealt with in an environmentally-friendly manner. So, what does your lunch look like?
