Consumer goods juggernaut, Wal-Mart, offers its consumers the chance to bring in ads and essentially use them as coupons at the register. What are these pantry filling tricks? Our consumer-driven society is one that results in a great deal of waste. From food waste to packaging to disposable items, there are a lot of resources being used by humans. If you find yourself throwing out a lot of food, you can remedy the problem by shopping with a list. Preserve Some of Your Food. Nor is it healthy.

My favorite thrift store has a section dedicated to seasonal items. The number and variety of Halloween items in this thrift store surprised me. A couple of days ago on one of my visits, I noticed 2 entire clothing racks filled with Halloween costumes and/or clothing items.

In my children’s first few years of life, food was the biggest expense. In our consumer driven society where we have everything for children from designer clothing stores to classes to iPads, how does someone go so counter society and not spend anything on her children save childcare and medical expenses? Thrift stores are also a great place to shop. If you are providing all of the food, plan your menu to take advantage of less expensive and seasonal foods – and don’t over serve. Heaven knows, not many of us lack for food or sustenance! They kind of look like the ones for sale at Curious Country Creations.

We especially need essential stuff, like food, water, shelter, heat, clothing, defensive and offensive protection. But to reach full consumer status, they have to be taught to want things – and they learn fast. I like my stuff and I refuse to acquiesce to the guilt trips imposed by others. Humans need stuff.

Most new parents are shocked by how much diapers, wipes, food, and baby necessities add up to be. But our consumer driven society makes new and naive parents think they need these high-tech, expensive gadgets. Having a baby is expensive. Like, real expensive. I know I was, and that was over 20 years ago! You just don’t.
