There was the gas, the hotel, and the restaurants to pay for. I bring a hot plate and a skillet and sauce pan with me to the hotel to reheat freezer meals that I’ve made in advance. Use hotel rewards. As much as possible, we try to stay at the same hotel chain so we can accrue rewards points.

She couldn’t stretch the inheritance, no matter how thrifty she was, to last more than 15 years. She charged up credit cards to buy food and clothing. Her gas is turned off, she heats water in the kitchen to shower, and dries her clothes on the line. In fact, she did pretty good making it last that long.
