It is best to travel during off seasons when airline tickets and hotel prices are at its lowest. Some websites offer discounted airline, tour and hotel bundles that can actually save some money. Compare the time spent on the road and the amount that will be spent on gas with the actual amount difference of airline tickets.

There was the gas, the hotel, and the restaurants to pay for. I bring a hot plate and a skillet and sauce pan with me to the hotel to reheat freezer meals that I’ve made in advance. Use hotel rewards. As much as possible, we try to stay at the same hotel chain so we can accrue rewards points.

Discount travel sites like Expedia, Orbitz, Hotels.com, and Kayak offer their customers a lot of deals on hotels, airline tickets, and even tickets to destination attractions—sometimes they will offer package deals that can seem too good to be true. We just have to know how to plan and where to look for the best deals.

She couldn’t stretch the inheritance, no matter how thrifty she was, to last more than 15 years. Her gas is turned off, she heats water in the kitchen to shower, and dries her clothes on the line. Be prepared to spend money on a cheap hotel if you can’t get into a shelter or take a tent (if you can carry it).
