Of course, I want the best deal possible, so I went scouting to see what I could learn about getting the best deal on a rental car. Choose the right car for your needs. Usually, if we fly somewhere and then rent a car, we just get the smallest (least expensive) type available. Here is what I found. Rent by the week.

I locked in the CD at my local credit union where it will earn 4.75% during that time frame. Airlines Refund of $400 + $200 credit We flew to Florida in March to visit family. While they would not reimburse us for the rental car, they also gave each of us a $50 credit to be used within a year.

We usually go with one empty credit card, put everything on that ONE card so it’s easy to keep track of, and try our best not to go over our spending goal. Another cost to factor into flying is whether or not you’ll need a rental car when you arrive at your destination. It’s too risky. We almost always drive!
