What’s your best frugal win? I racked up more debt to move to California, then the fancy car turned out to be a lemon, requiring a bunch of expensive repairs. I decided I was better off trading in the fancy car, but doubled down on poor car choices by getting a brand-new, completely unpractical sports car.

He then advises paying off your non-mortgage debt before fully funding an emergency fund with 3 – 6 months worth of expenses. Now that we’ve paid off six figures of non-mortgage debt , we are working on saving 6 months’ expenses and maybe even more. Personally, I think a starter fund should be $2000-$3000.

Staying out of debt was/is very important to me & miraculously I have succeeded this far, praise God. What’s your best frugal win? Used bookstores, fair trade products, and locally sourced food/baskets/pottery are favorites, in addition to monthly outings with my kids. Don’t even talk to me about retirement!

Peggy : Something really cool being done today is that the stay-at-home Moms trade babysitting days so they can get some time off and give the kids a play day. We saved and saved and saved.
