Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. My neighbor’s garage sale was almost over when I stumbled on it.

I always shop for Christmas wrapping paper, gift tags, boxes and really nice ornaments the week after Christmas. However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales. These get donated to thrift stores or placed in consignment shops so you might keep checking your local stores for these.

Busy Bee Kids Crafts has a bunch of ideas, one of which is making paper plate tambourines. Garage sales – I found a guitar for $5.00 once at a garage sale and bought it for my grandson. Relatives – Great Uncle Joe may still have that trumpet he used to play and might like to donate it to a future generation!

I took at least three trunks full of “stuff” to Goodwill, I had a garage sale, and I sold things online. If you buy your child a new doll, make sure that you donate or sell another one of her toys or you’ll end up with a toy room filled with toys your children don’t play with. Boy, did I declutter.

Some get stuff from stores, the less financially favored head for thrift stores, garage sales, Mom’s house or the trash pickup routes. When I was newly married (right out of college), I used to sit with my neighbor friend and pour over the paper catalogs that came to dream about all of the neat stuff I wanted to own some day.

My dad had been working with me on learning how to read a map, and at the beginning of the summer, he handed me a paper map, a quarter to call home if I needed it, and told me to go ahead and explore. Hosting garage sales & reselling items.
