Recycling is great for the environment and we should all be doing it (in spite of my title), but reusing is even better. When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle. Garden Harvest. I planted a small garden this year: 2 tomato plants, 1 cucumber, 1 pepper plant that sadly didn’t make it, and 1 butternut squash. I have toned down my gardening in recent years. At one time I planted quite a bit, but weeds overtook my garden and turned my favorite hobby into a stressful mess.

Am I Frugal – or Cheap?

There is a lovely thrift store not far from my neighborhood that receives donations from the folks in the local golfing gated community. I wash and reuse freezer bags. I’m retired, have been for 5 years now (yes it IS great). My wardrobe needs have changed.

Consider using your own home or garden, where you can control the amount of power used. If it is a gift-giving occasion, ask for donations to be made to environmental projects that you support.
