What I Spent So I went to pull together my grocery spending for the week and I realized that it’s all quick trips to Safeway. This is better than endless nights of eating out, but definitely not as frugal as an organized trip to Aldi. I spent $63 at Safeway, spread out between an embarrassing number of trips.

3 – Cook/Eat from the pantry and freezer. Groceries is the easiest budget category TO GET OUT of control and the easiest budget category TO control. To reign your grocery spending in, you must plan all of your meals. Invite friends over for a potluck/game night, instead of going out to dinner.

When I plan a menu, my spending is generally under control. When I don’t plan, I make multiple trips to the store, eat out too often, and most certainly blow our budget. I keep at least one frozen pizza in the freezer just for this occasion—bought on sale, of course!! Cut out the junk food and save some dough.
