That number includes gifts for our kids, extended family members, teachers, friends, neighbors, bus drivers, service people, our Christmas cards, stamps, and our donations towards the Salvation Army''s Adopt-a-Family program. They were pricier toys, but I''ll start keeping my eye open for when they go on sale.

I carefully planned our menu each week around the sales flyers and loss leaders. And while I didn’t hit my goal of $400, I did reduce our spending to $425 for my family of 4. I made a large batch of homemade sugar-free applesauce in March that I stored in the freezer. I felt like March was somewhat of a success.
