Several years ago, it struck me that I was using plastic food storage containers (with screw on lids) that I bought at the grocery store to store my homemade freezer food and at the same time I was throwing perfectly usable glass food jars in the recycle bin. It seemed a bit wasteful.

Garage sale and thrift store furniture bargains abound. Our home furnishings include many cherished family heirlooms, such as an iron bed my folks bought at a sale, or the hand carved bed frame purchased by my great-grandfather. Although upholstery material can be very expensive (think $25+ a yard), you can find it on sale.

There is an initial investment, but I have seen similiar containers at yard sales or thrift stores and at Bed Bath and Beyond where they regularly offer 20% coupons. Sometimes reaching for disposable paper products seems easier, but it doesn't take much more effort to use products that are re-usable or recycled.

Teach them how to recycle household items like plastic bottles, aluminum cans, paper, etc. And vice versa!)

One time, Mike found a rare sale where its cost was two dollars per bottle. as well their health enhancing potential is legendary as is the economical and time - saving benefits of developing the habit. It is, however, very expensive ranging from $3.49 Needless to say he bought a few cases and I kept the bottles.

I used coupons and bought the cups on sale, but the price still doesn’t compare to buying the same brand of coffee in bulk. I also did not realize that the plastic cups are not recyclable. Their issue was finding a plastic that met guidelines for consumption, the heat of brewing, and was recyclable.
