I have been able to save on things like food, gas, and clothing. Plus, by watching shows without commercials you are less likely to be influenced to buy items you don’t need. And finally, if you don’t pay for cable and limit the amount of shows you watch, it is amazing how much time you save.

Most telephones were on a party line (and yes the parties did ease drop on each other, but they also let us do ‘conference’ calls). Food/shopping. Fast food was rare. Most food at the grocery store came from the USA. Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. Entertainment.
