We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Search the attic, the backs of the closets, the garage and see what inspiration presents. Dad’s old cowboy hat and a rope from the garage can be the start of a cowboy get up. Free Kids Crafts has some ideas.

Some retail stores do still give out gift boxes for free, always check if you are buying in a brick and mortar store. Use free down loadable templates to print your own gift tags. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. What have you done to save money on wrapping, yet still present beautiful gifts?

Presentation. Presentation isn’t just used on kids. Last week I visited a garage sale. As I looked around, the owner came up to me with a package of floral foam saying I should just take it for free. I didn’t feel obligated, but did end up buying another package of it at that sale! Reciprocity.

They kind of look like the ones for sale at Curious Country Creations. Plan ahead and hit garage sales, but especially estate sales. You can pick up beautiful decorations, wreaths, linens, trees and more at these sales. In my growing up family, we didn’t get that many presents on Christmas day.

Take the time to learn any requisite skills, either by reading, learning online or perhaps attending some of the home improvement big box store presentations and skill shops. I sanded and re-stained the wood cabinet and fashioned a matching frame for the mirror out of molding strips from Lowes that I got for about $3 each. Craigs list.

I always search for free printables before I go out and buy something. It is hard to estimate the cost of the cupcakes since they were homemade, but it was definitely far less expensive than a bakery cake – even though I made them gluten-free.
