I yard sale and thrift all year long for my booth. I thought why am I not thrifting for more people on my gift giving list?

Holiday time can be fun, but so very expensive and consequently stressful. Amidst the frantic schedules we keep all year long, the extra tasks thrown in for the holidays and all those expectations, sometimes we are just glad when it is all over. Save On Holiday Decorating. Thrift stores are also a great place to shop.

Some retail stores do still give out gift boxes for free, always check if you are buying in a brick and mortar store. Christmas cards are becoming a forgotten tradition, but we still get and give some. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. This You Tube video shows you how. Go Green'

Candy alone can be a big bite if you get lots of trick or treaters and give out chocolate. We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Search the attic, the backs of the closets, the garage and see what inspiration presents. Decorate for the next fall holiday with it.

For many, the end of the year holiday shopping frenzy can override our saner, more thrifty selves. Spending our precious and all too limited time searching online and in stores. What should you wait to buy until after the holidays? However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales.

My favorite thrift store has a section dedicated to seasonal items. The number and variety of Halloween items in this thrift store surprised me. How this holiday has changed since I was a child in the 1950’s, and even since I raised my own sons in the 1970’s/80’s!

Today it is much less expensive to buy your clothes, even if you buy brand new and certainly if you shop some of the chic re-sale shops or even the thrift stores. I bought out a lady at a garage sale long ago, made several dresses, shirts, shorts and cover ups out of some of the material and still have a gob left over.
