We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes. Search the attic, the backs of the closets, the garage and see what inspiration presents. Dad’s old cowboy hat and a rope from the garage can be the start of a cowboy get up.

Below is a list of things I (or hubby) have personally saved and reused. Shopping bags are reused as carry alls for gifts and travel needs. Decorated bags (such as those you put gifts in) are just reused for gift giving. We tear down big boxes and lay them on the garage floor in case of oil leaks. Containers.

There have been countless times I have seen nearly new, decorator pieces being sold for pennies on the dollar at garage sales because the homeowner decided to re-decorate. Most of them had little use for huge walk in closets or shoe racks to hold dozens of pairs of shoes or garages to hold more than one or two cars.

I have found that garage sales , flea markets , estate sales or Mom/Grandma’s basement are the best places to score a great deal on used canning jars. The best place to find used canning accessories cheaply is eBay , although sometimes you can get lucky and spot some items at garage sales , too.

Plan ahead and hit garage sales, but especially estate sales. Reuse your own decorations. In the fall, after first frost, I pick interesting looking grasses, with seed heads intact and bunch them into 4” wide 12 “ tall stand up decorations – just by tying a Christmas ribbon around them in the middle. These make nice gifts too.
