It is not only possible to spend gobs of money on your little rug rats but also gobs of your time. We spoiled our children and we apparently are even more intent on doing so with our grandchildren! They rarely gave us toys or money. My parents were somewhat more interactive with their grandchildren (my kids).

Although I live 200+ miles away from my two grandkids, I try to get them for a week or so during the summer. There are many documented benefits to utilizing grandparents to watch grandkids. When she saw that her great-grandchildren were not writing thank you notes for her gifts to them, she sent their parents a set of Thank you note cards with envelopes and postage! From my Mother-in-laws perspective, the number one benefit to the great-grandkids of sending her a thank you note, is that she would continue to send them gifts.
