Although I live 200+ miles away from my two grandkids, I try to get them for a week or so during the summer. There are many documented benefits to utilizing grandparents to watch grandkids. The jury is out as to whether you should pay your parent to watch your children. I’m one of them.

If you are a parent, some day you will most likely become a grandparent. Being a grandparent is tons more fun than parenting. We spoiled our children and we apparently are even more intent on doing so with our grandchildren! I only remember staying with them once without parents around. They tolerated our presence.

When I was a young adult, out of college and into my first years of marriage, I cringed at the thought of getting money from my parents. Perhaps though, you are doing your parents a disservice by refusing their gifts. Lets explore the topic of parents giving money to grown offspring. I wanted to prove myself.

When she saw that her great-grandchildren were not writing thank you notes for her gifts to them, she sent their parents a set of Thank you note cards with envelopes and postage! So, great-grandma was wise in helping her grandchildren and great-grandchildren learn how to express gratitude. She is spunky and outspoken.

If they are primary beneficiaries, the parents or guardians may have to go to court and get themselves designated as able to manage the account for the child. First, if I had managed to convert everything to a Roth, the grandkids would be swamped with hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. There are two problems with that in my mind.

The Grandkids are 9 and 12 now with lots of time before they have to start supporting themselves somehow. That is why I started helping my Grandchildren explore the many careers that currently exist – so they see that there are other opportunities than what they have immediately around them.
