Public Transportation and Other Amenities. Finally, we are saving due to better public transit. My fuel bill is lower, since I don’t have to go as far to run errands (we live in an area where shopping is closer), and there is public transit, so that is also usable. My husband has a shorter commute.

I find that running outside instead of the gym or on my treadmill not only helps the environment, but also helps my pocket book, I save on my gym membership, electricity and get fresh air. Transportation. Buying an electric car, carpooling or even taking public transit all reduce your overall transportation costs 1/2 to 2/3.
